What's the challenge?
X-WATERS Plateau Putorana is the first and only swimming camp at the polar lake Lama, which is hidden for 8 months a year under a meter layer of ice, in the land of thousands of lakes, canyons and waterfalls. The warmest water is in July: the temperature on the surface rises to +6 Celsius.
An entry point for those who are interested in the world of cold swimming. You can go through basic cold swimming training and, as a final chord, swim your first distance in cold water. Experienced swimmers will be able to improve their results with the help of professional cold-swimming coach, record holder in winter swimming, coach of one of the strongest winter swimming teams in Russia IceUnion — Natalia Vasileva.
The sports program includes lectures on cold swimming, training in breathing techniques, trial dives and, as a final, swimming at the selected distance.

You can register for the swim without camp. For such participation, you’ll need to arrive at the place the day before the start in order to performe the acclimatization swim. You’ll also need to organize a transfer to the starting point for yourself, which is a difficult and costly task. We have the opportunity to deliver you by 4-seater boat, which costs about 100 thousand rubles. If that suits for you, please us at ed@x-waters.com for booking. All swimming distances are arranged along the shore according to the "Arctic scenario".
All distances are arranged from point to point.
Declared distances: 1000 and 1895 meters for swimmers in wetsuits; 50 and 100 metres for swimmers without wetsuits. The actual length of the distances can be adjusted for weather conditions.
For safety reasons, one participant swims only one distance at the final swim.
You can choose your distance during the camp. The final admission of the swimmer to the distance is subject to the organizers' approval.
Virtually untouched by humans, the waterfall region of Russia, a mountain area which is sizable to Great Britain, fjord lakes and the real northern tundra: stone plateau, deep canyons, a realm of mosses and lichens, abundance of fish. There are no trails, no connection, and almost no people.
Here you can feel like a discoverer, and when meeting the indigenous peoples - enjoy the true hospitality of people of the north.
Camp program:
July 13. Arrival, city tour, transfer to Putorana Plateau
7:30 Arrival of the morning S7 flight from Moscow at the airport of Norilsk (Alykel), transfer to the city, breakfast in the cafe (not included).
4-hour sightseeing tour of Norilsk: the only city of the world with multi-storey buildings on permafrost, the best residential complex of the RSFSR, the history of the industrial giant creation, GULAG and the price of creating the polar pearl. As part of the tour we visit the old town, the new city, the museum of Norilsk.
Instead of the sightseeing tour, you can visit the mine.
Lunch in the city (not included).
After lunch, transfer to Valek port and transfer to Putorana plateau 3-4 hours (depending on weather conditions).
Check-in at the tourist center, dinner, free time.
July 14. Sports program and tour of the territory of the first House on Lake Lama
Breakfast.
Lectures on cold swimming, training in breathing techniques, trial dives.
Lunch. After lunch we go on a tour of the nearby territory. At this location, the construction of the Lake Lama House began in 1939. As part of the tour, you will learn how the correctional labor camp and pioneer camp could live together, why the house is made in the shape of an airplane and what Latvian generals did here. Norilsk Epidemic and Vitaminka River. We will learn the legends of the totems of this place, walk to the memorable place and observation deck.
Return to the tourist center, dinner.
July 15. Sports program and tracking to waterfalls
Breakfast.
Lectures on cold swimming, training in breathing techniques, trial dives.
Lunch. After lunch we go tracking along the Vitaminka River. We will see 6 waterfalls of different heights: from 3 to 15 meters. We will go down inside the canyons, come to the very drain of waterfalls, make a lot of beautiful photos. The tracking will take from 4-5 hours in medium mode.
In the evening we return to the tourist center, have dinner and free time.
July 16. Sports program and helicopter tour.
Breakfast.
Lectures on cold swimming, training in breathing techniques, trial dives.
Lunch. After lunch, we offer a helicopter tour (not included) to the remote parts of the Putorana Plateau — to deep canyons and high waterfalls. 3-hour helicopter tour to Irkindinsky waterfall — one of the most impressive waterfalls of the Putorana Plateau (27 meters high) and Bunisyak Canyon. Along the way, we offer a bird's eye view of the fjord lakes of Lama, flat tops of table mountains and thermokarst lakes (tundra marshes) of permafrost.
Participants who do not join the helicopter tour can try fishing or relax at the tourist center.
In the evening we return to the tourist center, have dinner (not included).
July 17. X-WATERS Plateau Putorana 2021 swim and return to Norilsk.
Breakfast.
08:30 — briefing for swim participants
08:45 — sending participants to start points
09:00 — start of the swim
11:00 — award ceremony
12:00 — Official closure of the camp
Lunch. Transfer to Norilsk (3-4 hours), check in at Norilsk hotel.
Dinner in Norilsk (not included).
July 18: Reserve day of the swim, in case it becomes impossible to hold it on July 17. If the swim goes as planned:
08:00 Breakfast at Norilsk hotel (included).
8:30 Departure to the city of Dudinka for a one-day excursion.
10:30 Arrival to Dudinka, walking sightseeing tour of the city: main square, port, ships, river station, Bering bridge, street without a single house, the only newspaper in the world in 5 languages.
12:00 Excursion at the museum of Dudinka (polar expeditions, mammoth "Zhenya", the last shaman on Taimyr).
13:30 Lunch at the cafe (included). After lunch, you can go on a half-day excursion to the deer cattle camp (not included).
The main group continues a tour of the city: boarding school, features of infrastructure and life of locals, named houses, honorary citizens, the venue of the World Cup Championship in curling.
14:30 Visit to the ethnic village, meeting people who have lived all their lives in tundra: everyday life, traditions and unusual stories from their lives. Visit to a souvenir shop with works of local craftsmen and fish docks, return to Norilsk.
20:00 Dinner at one of Norilsk restaurants (not included).
July 19: Early morning transfer to the airport.
