What's the challenge?

In 2023, the start is canceled. We have sent a letter to all registered participants with details. If you haven't received the letter, please email welcome@x-waters.com

Sava Lake is the most popular artificial river lake in the capital city of the Republic of Serbia – Belgrade and is one of the city’s landmark. Colloquially named ‘’The Sea of Belgrade’’ it is the gathering place for the generations of the citizens of Belgrade and is a recreational safe haven incorporating numerous sport facilities located in natural environment of Ada Ciganlija river island. The Sava Lake is approximately 4km in length and has been the site of many triathlon, long distance swimming, sprint canoeing and rowing national and international competitions in the past couple of decades. None of those events incorporated the challenge so unique, which is at the same time the moto of this X-WATERS event:

‘’Swim across the Sava Lake’’!
This is the first time in the history of this venue for someone to set a challenge like this, and you might be among the first to succeed in doing it!

Those who decide to swim the 3650m distance will swim from the one to the other side of the Sava Lake and will fulfill the moto of this swimming event!

Participants of X-Waters Belgrade 2022 will also have the opportunity to swim around the lake in order to finish 7000m distance. To do so you will have to cross the Sava Lake twice. Those who manage to do so will rise immensely in the eyes of citizens of Belgrade.

NAUTICAL MILE (1852 m)
The course of the swim goes from point A to point B (see the map). The starting and the finishing point are located in different positions. The organizer will provide the transportation from the meeting point to the starting point located on the opposite side of the lakeshore. At the sound of the starting signal, all participants will have to enter the water from a section of the beach covered by gravel sand. Approximately 80% of the distance is a straight line directed towards the end of the Sava Lake where the finishing point is located. In the last part of the race participants will have to swim in a semi-circle around the buoys in a counterclockwise direction (from right to left - buoys remain on the left hand side). The finishing point is located several hundred meters after the last buoy, on the right side of the lakeshore and immediately in front of the spectator stands at the venue of the event. To cross the finish line participants need to climb the pontoon and reach the concrete plateau.

3560 m
Participants of this event will have the opportunity to do what many Belgrade swimmers find impossible: swim from one to the other end of the Sava Lake.

7000 m
Participants who manage to successfully finish the 7000m swim will complete a full circle around the Sava Lake, which is by all standards an amazing achievement.

The course of the swim starts and finishes at the same location (see the map). The start will be performed from the concrete plateau and a pontoon located in front of the spectators stands at the venue of the event. At the sound of the starting signal, all participants will have to dive into the water. After almost 3500m of swimming in a straight line the participants will reach the opposite end of the Sava Lake and will have to swim in a semi-circle around the buoys in a counterclockwise direction (from right to left - buoys are located on the left hand side) for the first time. After the first semi-circle around the buoys, participants will again be swimming in a straight-line but in the opposite direction, back towards the start/finish line, until they reach the buoys used for both 1852m and 3560 swims on the opposite side of the Sava Lake. After swimming around the buoys in a semi-circle again (counterclockwise direction), participants will reach the finishing position – the same position from which they have started the swim. To cross the finish line participants need to climb the pontoon and reach the concrete plateau.
