What's the challenge?

X-WATERS Montenegro 2026 is the round of the X-WATERS World Championship 2026.
It's not only point-to-point, it's town-to-town!
Perast to Risan (4,5k); Risan to Perast to Risan (7k).
Kotor Bay‑ is the southernmost fjord of Europe. It offers quite warm, and what is important, calm water and stunning picturesque views‑ both from the water and from the surrounding mountains.

Distances of 7 and 4.5 km go between two rival islands: St. George with the Benedictine abbey, and “Gospa od Škrpjela” (Our Lady of the Rocks) - the only man-made Adriatic island.

This island was built by the inhabitants of the city of Perast as opposed to the domination of neighboring Kotor, from the shipwrecks and stones delivered by passing by vessels as a "tax". The Church of the Mother of God on the island is‑ one of the main attractions of the bay.

How to get there:
The start location

The easiest way is to fly to Tivat, then take a local bus or Taxi to Risan. Bus schedule and tickets online can be found here: tickets

• 500 m
Participants will start and finish at Risan beach. The course is a simple loop marked by buoys, ensuring a safe and enjoyable swim. Ideal for beginners or those seeking a shorter, relaxed distance.

• Night 750 м
Participants will start at Risan beach from the starting camp. They will move in a triangle passing buoys on the left (the buoy should appear on your right). Start and finish are in the same place.

• 1 mile (1852 m)
Participants will start at Risan beach from the starting camp. They will move in a triangle passing buoys on the left (the buoy should appear on your right). Start and finish are in the same place.

• 4,5 k
Participants gather in the starting camp at the Risan beach. Then they will be delivered by bus to the starting point in Perast. They start from the beach. After the start, the participants will move towards the islands. They swim between the islands, turn and make a full round around Our Lady of the Rocks island and swim towards the finish. The finish is at Risan beach.

• 7 k
Participants will start at Risan beach from the starting camp. They will move towards the island of Our Lady of the Rocks, passing buoys on the left (the buoy should appear on your right). They will swim between the islands of St. George and Our Lady of the Rocks, making a complete round around the second island, and will go back passing buoys on the left (the buoy should appear on your right). Start and finish are in the same place at Risan beach.

Venice's competitor

Bay of Kotor combines the incompatible: Scandinavian steepness of the southernmost fjord of Europe, warm Adriatic water, ancient, Byzantine and Venetian heritage, insane Balkan heap of cultures and languages, cheese, Vranac and fresh seafood, folk dances in bars and UNESCO monuments, as well as super convenient logistics (direct flights from Russia, no visa required).

This place has attracted people since antiquity, the first settlements here belong to the Neolithic era, and the first city appeared in 229 BC‑ just at the place of modern Risan, where we start and where we finish.

For more than two thousand years of history, the bay belonged to Illyrians and Dalmatians, Rome and Byzantium, Serbs and Bulgarians, Bosnians and Hungarians, the French empire and the Austrian crown, repelled the Ottomans and equally competed with Venice as the center of Mediterranean trade.

Мой тренер меня настолько загонял перед заплывом X-WATERS что во время всех 4,7 км (естественно, я наплавала больше) я думала о своём гребке, дыхании, голове. Хотя вру, больше я думала о том как бы не уплыть в другую сторону. Всегда теряюсь на открытой воде, не понимаю где нахожусь и куда двигаться. В жизни тоже частенько со мной такое случается. ⠀ Заплыв понравился всем - и атмосферой и организацией. Ну кроме того что на всю дистанцию был всего 1 буй. Это мой личный самый большой страх - попробуй разглядеть его за 2 км. Поэтому со мной пару раз случалась небольшая паника, но не критично и недолго. Температура воды была +16-17. ⠀ А физически было легко. Удивительно легко. Хотя мы плыли всю дистанцию, кроме первых 500 метров, против течения и приходилось работать. Или мне так показалось. ⠀ Я рада, мне было хорошо и интересно. Я чувствовала что я подготовилась и хочется работать дальше.

Адриатическое море. Первый раз так много (7 км), первый раз в солёной воде, первый раз в гидрокостюме (организаторы запретили стартовать без них - вода +16°). 2,5 часа удовольствия. Самое красивое место из тех, где я плавала

Завершила сезон открытой воды в Montenegro — 9.10.2021, но после этого ещё 6 дней плавала в Адриатическом море! Спасибо X-WATERS Montenegro за этот праздник, эмоции, вечеринку и приятную компанию! Честно, я не ожидала, что вода окажется такой соленой, именно поэтому, приходилось ускоряться, чтобы попить пресной воды!) Яркий заплыв, среди красивейших гор в Которском заливе, делаешь вдох, смотря на эту красоту природы, не веришь своим глазам, что ты преодолеваешь расстояние в 7 км на руках в этих местах! За что я люблю плавание — это за то, что можно работать лёжа! Путешествие вплавь к островам Богородицы на рифе и святого Джорджа (или еще его называют Остров Мертвых) — это не только живописные панорамы Которского залива, но еще и погружение в древнюю и занимательную историю этих мест. Третье место и завершение сезона открытой воды и шестого финального старта 2021! Спасибо за этот день!❤️

Первый старт openwater в 2019 году, третий в моей спортивной жизни. Все как в первый раз - волнение, переживания. Аномально холодная вода (впервые за 50 лет она была 16 градусов) добавила немного паники. Но это было очень круто!!! Оказалось и вода не сильно холодная и не сильно соленая и дождь не помеха и волны (видали побольше). Но самое главное люди - участники, организаторы, болельщики, волонтеры. Как одна большая семья - шумная, веселая, по-хорошему ненормальная
