X-WATERS Vienna 2020 is a stage of the X-WATERS 2020 World Championship.
Experience a swim in the heart of Vienna! What a great place to visit and a unique place to swim.
The "Beautiful Blue Danube", to which Johann Strauss dedicated his famous waltz, will become the main location for a large-scale swim. And the truth is that the New Danube, the man-made channel of the great river, has blue waters. A quiet and clean river in the summer turns into a so-called Vienna Sea, and its entire coastline becomes one long beach.

The "Beautiful Blue Danube", to which Johann Strauss dedicated his famous waltz, will become the main location for a large-scale swim. And the truth is that the New Danube, the man-made channel of the great river, has blue waters. A quiet and clean river in the summer turns into a so-called Vienna Sea, and its entire coastline becomes one long beach.
The New Danube is separated from the main river by a long narrow island of Donauinsel. A 21-km distance will stretch along it - this is one of the longest mass swims of Europe. Satellite distances are no less impressive, they will also be located along the canal, and you will be able to enjoy Vienna landscapes from a completely different perspective.
Together with X-WATERS, you will discover not only a classic competition, but also an event saturated with the spirit of challenge, as well as the most friendly open water community in the world.

ATTENTION: An individual buoy will be provided to every participant for mandatory use. 50 € deposit is required for using the buoy (will be returned to you after the race).
X-WATERS Vienna 2020 distances:
1 km and 1.6 km distances start from Vienna City Beachclub. Distances are laid in a lap around the buoys.
2.5 km, 5 km and 11 km distances start from the points indicated on the diagram, the finish of all distances is in Vienna City Beachclub. The distances go from check point to check point and have check time (see more in the swim regulations).
21 km distance starts from Vienna City Beachclub. The swim starts and finishes in one place covering only 1 lap.
KIDS SWIMS:
born in 2011 or later 150m
born in 2008-2010 300 m
born in 2005-2007 450 m
150m kids distance goes in 1 circle with the start and finish at Vienna City Beachclub.
Kids distances of 500 and 300 m have separated start and finish.
OSV-PRO category:
• You can perform in this category at 5 km distance.
The OSV-PRO wave is conducted in accordance with the regulations of the OSV and FINA competitions. The anti-doping rules of NADA Austria and the Austrian Swimming Association also apply. The OSV-PRO wave is open to all OSV clubs, as well as to foreign clubs whose national federation belongs to FINA. To participate in the competition, reporter clubs shall confirm that their registered swimmers are suitable for sports and that the last sports exam was a maximum of 12 months ago.

• FINA rules for wetsuits for the OSV-PRO category:
• 16-18°C: required.
• 18-20°C: allowed.
• above 20°C: prohibited.
ATTENTION: Just to clarify: there is no current! The New Danube is considered a lake.

The Danube in Vienna is a very complex system. The New Danube was created in the 1970s to ensure the outflow of water during floods. Then an artificial island, the 21-kilometer Donauinsel, was built to separate the new river from the old one. Therefore the water exchange in the New Danube is more intense, and the water quality here is many times better.
All this man-made system is now a recreational area. This is one of the largest green recreation areas in Europe. There are equipped beaches with changing rooms, showers, pools and cafes, places for swimming, running and all kinds of outdoor activities. It offers beautiful views of the city and the modern district of Danube City. We recommend swimmers to stay here and enjoy food, drinks and live music performed by Vienna best DJs.
All in all - the river, infrastructure and the unique charm and energy of the Austrian capital - become an excellent stage for a vibrant international swimming event X-WATERS Vienna. This is a sports weekend that you will definitely remember!
